Our Fees
At Murphy & Smith, Ltd. we pride ourselves on our ability to offer clients alternative fee arrangements to the traditional hourly rate billing system without compromising the quality of our legal service. Since many companies today have slashed their use of outside legal counsel in an effort to control costs, we have implemented a fixed fee billing arrangement for many types of legal matters. Our clients benefit from such arrangements because they can budget their legal fees more effectively, since the cost for the defense of each file is known in advance. Naturally, we maintain an hourly rate billing schedule for our clients who prefer such a system.
FIXED FEES
We handle fixed fee matters just like any other case - our attention to timeliness, detail and results do not waiver no matter what the fee arrangement. Legal situations which are ideal for a fixed fee arrangement include auto liability, all matters of commercial or residential premises claims such as slip and falls or dog bites, and boating liability situations. Legal situations which do not lend themselves to fixed fee arrangements would involve complex cases such as medical or legal malpractice matters.
Even companies that employ in-house counsel benefit from fixed fees because the cost of each matter is budgeted in advance, and the efficiency of such a system helps alleviate the project backload. We do not require a minimum number of cases to negotiate a fixed fee arrangement, although larger cost savings are realized when there are more than a "handful" of cases being evaluated. Finally, we can change billing arrangements, should the fixed fee arrangement not prove effective.
